The Loop Playbook

The whole AI trade as one loop, and just enough to act on it. Every detail behind it stays in the full report.

Right now (15 Oct): the capability tree maps 113 jobs AI is learning into the agent bundles that will absorb them, with every public company placed on it. The put basket is rebuilt from it: Omnicom, Box, Perdoceo, Strategic Education and Match (about $1,670 for a first lap), Paychex and Huron as steadier names, and Apple as a side bet. The old picks (Fiverr, Upwork, Concentrix and others) are dropped because their puts already price in the fall. The aggregators, Google first, are still the steady side. Nothing is bought.

The path, start to finish

  1. Do it yourself first. Run the sector cycles with your own money, a third to half of the pot per lap, several sectors at once. Your income feeds the pot every month.
  2. Log every trade from the first one (the trade journal below), so the record shows the plan working, not luck.
  3. Show the profit, then raise money. With a documented record, go to investors, starting with the community. Set up the license or fund structure with a lawyer before taking the first dollar.
  4. Keep compounding, sector cycles in phase 1, then the broad-crash puts in phase 2.
  5. Move the winnings into hard assets: part to the aggregators each lap, then land, real estate and other scarce assets.

The loop: the whole thesis

Every jump in AI goes round the same four steps, and the last step feeds the first.

1 · New capabilityA lab ships a new skill (model, tool, a new test it aims at)2 · Startups rush inNiche products within weeks;stocks barely move3 · AggregationA big player ships the generalversion; exposed stocks drop4 · ShockRevenue falls over 1–4 quarters, then the stock is repricedusers teach it the next skill

Each lap is shorter. Step 2 to step 3 took about 2.5 years in 2023–25; now it takes about 3 to 9 months (my estimate from four cases).

Why it loops. Once a big player owns a job, millions of people do that job through it. Every accept, edit or reject is a lesson, and that is what produces the next capability. So the winner of one lap is the favourite for the next one. That is the case for holding the aggregators through every lap.

Job size, per sector. How much of a job agents can do on their own differs by sector and moves fast. Each sector below gets its own plain line for it, updated as launches come in. There is no fixed ladder.

What to do at each step

StepThe signal you seePutsAggregators
1 CapabilityA new model, or labs start showing a new test aimed at a jobNote the sector. No money yet.Keep buying as you save. Buy extra on market dips.
2 StartupsThree or more startups launch for the same niche within a few weeksOpen a starter position. This is the cheapest moment.
3 AggregationA lab or platform ships the general version. Exposed stocks drop 5–15% in a day.Sell part into the scare. Fear makes puts expensive.
4 ShockReports show slower sales and guidance cuts; later the stock trades as a shrinking businessHold or roll on confirmed names, then exit once it is repriced. Move to the next sector.

Timing now: step 1 to 2 takes weeks; 2 to 3 about 3 to 9 months (estimate from four past cases); the scare comes the same day as the launch; revenue damage follows in 1 to 4 quarters. That is why 9 to 12-month puts fit better than 6-month ones.

The capability tree

AI merges work the way an assistant would: one agent replaces many apps, people and services. The tree follows that. At the top is the general assistant. It splits into Personal AI (a person's life: shopping, money, health, home, travel, learning, entertainment, communication, career, paperwork) and Business AI. Business splits into Physical AI (factories, farms, construction, self-driving vehicles, warehouse robots), Services AI (one chain behind each personal area) and Company office AI (Marketing AI, Sales AI, Customer service AI and the rest). The two sides need each other: business serves the person, and the person uses business. What survives is the two ends: the physical world and the person with their AI. Everything in between (stores, brokers, agencies, platforms, call centers) gets squeezed. A dashed ↔ line links each personal area to the business chain that serves it. Every box is an AI that merges the boxes under it; grey boxes are jobs that belong in the breakdown but have not been researched yet. The breakdown was checked against the UN list of household needs (COICOP 2018), the US time-use survey, the goods and services sectors, and APQC's list of company processes.

AI can do = how much of the work AI already does well. Already used = how many people or businesses already use AI for it.

Built 15 Oct 2026 from two research sweeps covering about 200 jobs (offices, sales, service, software, media, personal life, and now driving and robots, stores, health and drug trials, government, inspection and engineering, banking and trading, home and family, and hiring), the labs' products, the incumbents' own AI and adoption surveys (Census, Ramp, Pew, McKinsey, Stack Overflow, Salesforce, HubSpot and others). Numbers marked "estimate" are judgement. A bundle's numbers are the average of every job inside it, so the same bundle shows the same numbers wherever it appears. Put prices are live Cboe quotes from 14-15 Oct.

The put basket (rebuilt from the capability tree, checked again 16 Oct against 286 jobs)

What changed: the old basket picked companies already falling, like Fiverr, Upwork, Concentrix and Angi. The market has priced those in: their puts need a 35% to 160% fall just to double. The capability tree finds the other kind: companies whose jobs AI can already do and the big players are bundling, while the stock still sits near its high and the put is cheap. The tree also gives a timing signal. When a big player launches a dedicated product for a job, the old companies drop fast. Gartner fell 31% in a day in February, and Thomson Reuters and RELX fell 14-16% the day Anthropic's legal plugin came out.

How to start (still nothing bought): a first lap of Omnicom, Box, Perdoceo, Strategic Education and Match costs about $2,225. Paychex and Huron are steadier, so they're slower to pay. Apple is the side bet if you want your App Store thesis in. The "next wave" idea is to own the put before a lab ships a dedicated product for that job. For Match, that's the moment ChatGPT or Gemini launches a real dating or relationship product.
16 Oct recheck (286-job tree): the basket holds. Omnicom got stronger: five of the new jobs name it, and AI ad buying is the most-ready job on the tree (AI can do 90%, 85% of advertisers use it). Education's jobs are now half AI-ready. Two names joined from the tree's ranking, both near their 1-year high with cheap puts: Ameriprise and Expeditors. The new research also named 45 other listed companies; their live puts were checked. Most have already fallen 20% to 90% (Accenture, Cognizant, EPAM, Gartner, Booz Allen, Leidos, Amdocs, The Trade Desk, Coursera, Rapid7, TTEC, Chegg, SelectQuote, eHealth), so their puts need a 22% to 400% fall to double. The few still near their high (Donnelley Financial, Pearson, Docebo, Tenable, Atlassian, Forrester) need a 36% to 72% fall to double, and their options barely trade.
Dropped and why: Fiverr, Upwork, Concentrix, TaskUs, Angi, GoTo (GTM), Teladoc, Globant, DXC, Gartner and TripAdvisor. AI is hitting them, but their puts already price it in (35% to 160% falls to double). Bumble fits the tree, but its options barely trade and look like buyout talk. The insurance brokers, banks and fund managers (Marsh, Gallagher, Ameriprise, Moody's, T. Rowe, Invesco) have cheap puts, but the tree shows their bundles only about 25-33% ready, and regulation slows them. They stay on watch.

Live Cboe quotes, 14-15 Oct 2026; check the price at IBKR before any order. "AI skill / adoption" averages the jobs the research ties to each company (sector jobs if none). "Ready" means AI skill of 60% or more on that job. Each company's full tree is in the capability tree above: Sectors and companies, then search for the name.

The put basket

The straight answer: 10 names across 8 sectors. All are scored first on the trend of their users and revenue (slowing growth counts as falling), then on debt and buyout risk. A = users and revenue both falling, and the fall is speeding up. B = revenue falling or stalled. C = falling, but something could put a floor under the price, so a spread.

What the live prices say (Cboe, close of 13–14 Oct):
  • The puts are not cheap. The market prices swings of 56–96% a year on these names (a normal stock: 25–35%). So a put about 10% below the price only breaks even if the stock falls about 18–25% by a spring 2027 expiry, or 27–32% by a late-2027 expiry.
  • No exact 1-year puts exist. The choices are about 6 months (spring 2027) or 14–15 months (Dec 2027 / Jan 2028). Concentrix and Gartner stop at April and March 2027. More months are usually added over time.
  • Easy to trade: Concentrix, Teladoc, Upwork, Tripadvisor and Fiverr. Hard: Angi, ZoomInfo, Globant and DXC have few or no traders in the long puts. Buy those only with a limit order at the middle price, or use a shorter month.
  • Gartner is at $195.77, up from the ~$150 used earlier, so the strike moved to $175.
  • Next in line, Jan 2028 puts about 10% below: Wix $65 put $1,675 (break-even −33%), HubSpot $200 put $4,775 (−31%), monday.com $80 put $2,060 (−32%).

Order to buy in: Concentrix first, because it has no report due soon and 15 October is its scare test. Every other name reports between 28 October and mid-November. Buy each one after its report, and only if the report confirms the trend. A report that confirms it is the signal, and buying right after it avoids paying for the pre-report jump.

Next in line (slowing, still growing): HubSpot (+23% → +20%, customer retention down to 102%, yearly guide cut), monday.com (+24% → +22%) and Wix (bookings +15% → +12%). They have cash and big buybacks, so they would be spreads, after their November reports confirm the slowdown.

Screened out:

  • RXO, Baldwin and Criteo: being bought or bid for. That's the "big players buy the niche" pattern, and a deal puts a floor under the price.
  • EPAM: an activist is pushing for a sale.
  • TTEC, SelectQuote and Chegg: already near zero, so there's little left for a put to gain.
  • Five9, NICE, Asana, Accenture and H&R Block: still growing steadily.
  • Sabre: revenue still rising, despite heavy debt.
  • WPP: mostly priced in.
  • T. Rowe Price: on watch (fund outflows of $28B last quarter, but revenue still +8.5%).

Cost and payoff (live): a put about 10% below the price costs 7–12% of the stock price for spring 2027 and 14–24% for Dec 2027 / Jan 2028. With the stock down 30% after 6 months, it is worth about 1.2–2.8×. Down 50% at expiry, about 2.2–5.6×. If the stock is flat after 6 months, the spring 2027 puts are worth nothing and the Jan 2028 ones about 0.7–0.8×.

Figures come from search summaries of the latest filings and calls (quarters to June–August 2026). The filings themselves couldn't be opened. Prices are dated August to October and must be checked live: Fiverr, DXC and Gartner are from August. Option prices are live delayed quotes from Cboe at the close of 13–14 October 2026 (middle of bid and ask; you pay nearer the ask). Payoff multiples use the standard pricing model at each put's own priced swing level. Re-check each chain at Interactive Brokers before buying. Research and education only, not personal advice. Nothing is bought without you.

The whole market: what isn't priced in yet

What a put is. A ticket that lets you sell a stock at a fixed price until an end date. One ticket covers 100 shares. If the stock falls below that price, the ticket is worth the difference, and you sell the ticket itself (you never buy or sell shares). If the stock doesn't fall far enough, the ticket ends at $0 and you lose what you paid, never more.

What I scanned: 265 US-traded companies in 41 sectors your theory says AI hits, with live option prices (Cboe, close of 13–14 Oct 2026) and one year of stock prices.

How "not priced in" is measured, in plain words: two signs show the market hasn't woken up yet. (1) The stock is still near its high, so nobody is selling. (2) The puts are cheap, so nobody is buying protection. The companies your theory hits hardest, with both signs, are the best tickets: if the theory is right, they have the furthest to fall, and the ticket costs little.

Your risk, without AI. The column "Without AI: chance this put made money" replays each company's own history from 2010 to 2022, before ChatGPT. It asks: if you had bought this same kind of put on any day back then, how often did the stock fall far enough by the end date to make a profit? Across all 204 companies with enough history, the typical answer is 9 in 100. About 81 in 100 ended at $0. For steady companies like ADP, Paychex and Marsh it was almost never: they kept rising. So without AI, these puts usually lose all the money. Your profit comes only from AI breaking that pattern. That's why each lap risks only money you can lose, spread over many names.

Why this works (your point, 15 Oct): the market prices puts from what it can already see: past swings, falling revenue, heavy debt. It doesn't price a business that still earns today but that AI will empty out. List 1 is exactly those: still earning, stock near the top, puts cheap.

1 · Buy window now: loop steps 2–3, not priced in (12 companies)

How to read the "must drop" columns: how far the stock has to fall by the put's end date for you to get your money back, make +5%, +10%, +30%, +50%, or double. Example, Box: −16% gets your money back, −17% makes +10%, −22% doubles. Green = a drop of 20% or less, red = more than 35%. If the stock falls less than the first column, you lose money, and above the strike you lose it all.

Picked by the loop, as in the playbook: step 2 (startups crowding into the niche, the cheapest moment for puts) and step 3 (big players launching the same thing). Each sector's step comes from the "Where each sector is now" table and the new lab tests (legal associate work, consulting projects, back-office operations, all at the Workflow rung). Also required: AI hit 2–3 dots, stock within 25% of its high, puts not yet expensive, easy enough to buy, at most 3 per sector. Step 2 first, then the smallest drop needed to double. Step 4 sectors (IT services, freelancing, ad agencies) are in "already priced in"; step 1 sectors (payroll, fund managers, insurance, banks) are "cheap but slow".

Cheap but slow: loop step 1 (28 companies)

Cheap puts, near their highs, but AI is only at step 1 there (capability shown, no startup wave yet), and many are regulated (insurance, banks, fund managers, payroll). Watch for a startup cluster; that moves them to step 2.

2 · Already priced in (58 companies)

The market already sees these: down 45% or more from their high, or puts so expensive the stock must fall 40–60% just to double. That is where the first basket was. They can still fall, but the ticket costs a lot more.

Profits are on the put's end date, using the price you'd pay right away (the ask). Each put is about 10% below today's price, in the longest month that trades: Dec 2027 / Jan 2028 when it does, otherwise spring 2027 (only about 6 months to fall). Selling early after a fast fall usually gets more. "AI hit" dots are my reading of your theory, not a measured number. Left out: DoubleVerify, Nerdy, ACV Auctions, Payoneer, PTC, American Financial, Warner Bros. Discovery, Bumble, LiveRamp, Domo, Weave (options so calm a buyout is likely pending), and companies under $3 or without listed options. Research only, nothing is bought without you.

Every put by length: 4 months to 2 years

How to read a box. Each box is one put, about 10% below today's price, ending at that length. The big number is how far the stock must drop by the end date to double your money. Under it: the drop that gets your money back, which put it is, and the price of one put (100 shares).

Green = doubles with a drop of 25% or less. Red = needs more than 40%. Grey = few trades in that month, so the price is shaky. "—" = no put of that length exists.

The pattern: a longer put costs more, so it needs a bigger drop to double, but it gives the stock more time to fall. Your 1-year line is the "~12 months" or "~15 months" column. Many companies have nothing between 8 months and 15 months.

Live delayed Cboe prices at the close of 13–14 October 2026, using the ask (the price you'd pay right away). Drops are measured at the end date; selling early after a fast fall usually pays more. Tap a column heading to sort.

The long side: hold the top and the tolls

How a put bet pays

A put gains when the stock falls. The most you can lose is what you paid. Two kinds fit this plan:

KindCost per $100 of stock (6 months, model)Pays backUse it when
Spread (buy 100, sell 85)$4.83Up to 3.1× once the stock is 15% or more downYou expect a 10–20% drop
Plain put (10% below today)$4.393.4× at −25%, 6.8× at −40%You expect a deep fall

With $11,000 in puts (model, before tax): every spread hits, about $34,000 back; deeper drops with plain puts, $54,000–75,000; about half hit, $17,000–22,000 (my realistic estimate); everything too late, $0. Tripling needs nearly every name to hit. 9 to 12-month puts cost more than the 6-month prices above, so the real quotes come from the broker.

Start: the first steps

  1. Open the broker account with options approval (Interactive Brokers). Approval takes days, so it goes first.
  2. Put the safety money in insured aggregators before any put.
  3. Paper-trade the October reports while approval runs. Write down, for each put name, what would prove you wrong.
  4. Open starter puts in step-2 and step-3 sectors, 9 to 12 months out, avoiding the days just before a company's report.
  5. Stage it. Part goes in now, and the rest goes in when a scare day or a report confirms the sector.
  6. Each Sunday, update the sector table: new startup clusters, big-player launches, report results.

Two phases: sector puts now, crash puts later

Phase 1, the next 8 to 12 months: AI makes companies more productive, so the overall market stays up while single sectors break. Index fear stays low, which keeps sector puts cheap. This is the time to run the sector cycles and build the pot.

Phase 2, the broad crash: once the squeeze reaches jobs and spending, the whole market can fall, not just the victims (the recession path in Part 17 of the full report). Puts on the whole market (S&P 500 or Nasdaq-100) are cheap while it is calm, and their option markets are the deepest in the world, so they can take a large pot without moving the price.

Signal that phase 2 is comingWhere to see it
White-collar hiring keeps falling, and unemployment rises among office jobsMonthly US jobs report; layoff announcements naming AI
Spending slows where white-collar pay falls: mid-price restaurants, home retailCard-spending data; those companies' reports
Loans to software and services companies start going badLenders heavy in software loans; credit spreads
Several sectors hit step 4 at the same timeThe sector table above

The window is about a year (your estimate). After that, everyone catches up and puts get expensive across the board. When puts are expensive, you're the seller: the puts bought cheap in the window are sold into that fear, and the money moves to aggregators and hard assets. Some sectors will still be early even then, so the cycles keep running there.

Buy the crash puts while the market is still calm and two of these four show up, not after the fall starts. That's the same rule as the sector puts: buy the calm, sell the fear.

Where the winnings go

The loop squeezes the middle. Value moves to the two ends: the intelligence at the top, and what an agent can't copy at the bottom. The money follows the same path.

  1. Puts ride the squeeze. Each lap, bet about a third to half of the pot, spread across sectors running at the same time. With a real edge, a fraction compounds and the whole pot doesn't: one miss at 80% wipes out several wins.
  2. Each lap, move part of the winnings out. Some goes to the aggregators, which don't expire.
  3. The rest goes to hard assets once the amounts are real: land, real estate, scarce things an agent can't copy or make cheaper. What's been moved stays safe whatever the next bet does.

The rules

  1. Puts only with money you can lose entirely. Safety money stays in insured aggregators, never a savings account.
  2. Buy puts in step 2, sell part in step 3.
  3. Run several sectors at once, each at its own step. They pay out at different times, so money comes back on a rolling basis, each payout funds the next sector's starter position, and no single sector carries the whole pot.
  4. Bet against the middle: single-job tools, per-seat coordination software, search-and-compare middlemen. A middleman with a license, contracts, warehouses or credit is not a put.
  5. Before each put, ask who would buy the company. If someone clearly would, skip it or use a spread.
  6. Heavy debt plus falling revenue is the only road to zero. Only those names get deep puts.
  7. Customer relationships are not a moat. Once results are measured, the best number wins.
  8. Every earnings season, drop names that start growing again and add new ones.
